Skipper's 2nd Graduation
THE 10 MINUTE DOG TRAINNER
That’s about how long it will take you to read this and understand how to get your dog under control, or to begin training it. Dogs are natural healers and have a gift to give everyone they meet, if trained. If left to their own instincts they will rule the environment and everyone in it. There is some truth to,” Sneaky as a Dog”. After all, they are smart animals.
My service dog Skipper is with me 24/7 and goes where I go.
Before I brought him home I read several books on dog training. I also discovered people like Cesar Milan, a Dog physiologist with an excellent program that can be seen on The History Channel. The information was very different between the two. I realized that dog physiology augmented the training methods. So without adieu here is the secret of having a loving-teaching relationship with pooch.
Dogs are animals that give to us spiritually.
We owe them a good life. In order to give them one we have to be in control. A dogs mind swirls like a spinning top. Watch his eyes as he gets more excited as you get his favorite toy or rattle your keys. As the mind gets faster it becomes more unbalanced. Ulrika! Balance, by keeping his mind relaxed he is feeling good. Therapy dogs are the most balanced by virtue of their jobs. Caesar Milan teaches that dogs have four categories. This is logical.
1. Animal
2. Species (Canine)
3. Breed (German Sheppard)
4. Name (Skipper)
It is natural that we provide a balanced life for our pals. Canines need an Alfa leader. We have the bigger brain so we use techniques to control behavior.
When the dog’s brain is not spinning up that’s when we ask our dog to do something. Sit, or down, or stay, or come are just a few things. Reward good behavior and punish bad by becoming the dominate pack member and refusing to put up with bad manners. Be consistent.
Do not hurt your dog, just give him a touch on the neck and say no once. He will understand once pooch feels that you are in control of him. Your dog will want to follow you and please you as long as you are in charge. Dogs love routine, walk him, feed him and play with him on a regular schedule. That’s it, it really is that simple. No really that’s it. If you’re unsure call a professional. For a more in depth study I suggest you visit your local library, they will have a wealth of information.
